Valentine’s Steak dinner with Heart-Shaped Cheesy Mash
Date night dinner
Mashed potato pre cheese
Post baked mash
Steak & tomatoes
Ingredients:
Serves 2 | 45 mins - 1 hour prep time and cook | Approx 600 calories per serve
2 Steaks of your choice (I am using rump medallions 150g each)
4 medium sized potatoes
1 tsp Dijon mjustard
Salt and Pepper
50g butter
Green beans
Handful of cherry tomatoes
Bisto gravy (cheats version all the way!)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare your potatoes and get your steak out to room temperature
Peel your potatoes and cut into medium sized chunks
Put in a pan of salted water and boil until soft
Step 2: Prepare your greens
Wash and cut the ends of your beans off and put in a pan ready to boil at the end, you can also use the microwave or steamer
Step 3: Cook your steak
Season your steak
Put oil in the pan and turn on a high heat
Fry your steak for 3 minutes each side, turning once for rare, or a couple of times for medium cooked
Add in cherry tomatoes into the pan for a couple of minutes
Once your steak is cooked to your liking take off the heat and put on a plate to rest, covering loosely in foil
Step 4: Finish the mash
Drain the boiled potatoes
Pop 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard, knob of butter, salt and pepper and mash until really creamy, you can also add milk to loosen.
In a baking tray (grease the bottom with butter to avoid sticking), pour the mash in and smooth over (as pictured above)
Add grated cheese all over and put under the grill until bubbling brown
At the same time get your green beans on to cook
Take the baked mashed potato out and leave to cool
Step 5: Make the gravy and serve
Boil the kettle and put your bisto in a jug ready to serve, add in the meat juices
Plate up your steaks, cherry tomatoes and green beans
Once cooled, put the heart shaped cutter on to make the heart shape and cut the mash into 4 pieces, and use a spatula to serve it
Enjoy!
